Without much fanfare, Microsoft has discounted its Surface Pro by $100. While the price cut last month to the Surface RT models was followed by a statement from Mcirosoft CEO Steve Ballmer about how the company had lost nearly $900 million dollars due to the troubled tablet, there is no indication as of yet that a similar problem is plaguing the Pro models.

The page on Microsoft?s site makes no mention as to how long this price cut will last, but in a statement obtained by The Verge, the price cut is applicable to consumers in?Canada, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the U.S. and will last through Aug. 29.

While it may be easy to point to this price cut as a sign that the Pro has failed, there have also been rumors circulating that an updated version of the Microsoft produced tablets are in the pipeline with a potential release in the not too distant future. Clearing out the old stock always makes sense before releasing an updated product.
